Targeting Options

Imagine you have multiple types of products in your store and need to collect different information from customers based on the product type. Or perhaps you only want to display custom fields for certain products or specific collections while hiding them from others. How do you achieve that?

With AC Custom Fields, it’s incredibly easy!

Product Targeting

Control which products display your custom fields:

All Products

When you select "All Products," your custom field will appear on every product page in your store. This is useful for fields that are universally applicable, such as:

  • Gift wrapping options

  • General delivery instructions

  • Customer notes that apply to any product

Specific Products

Target individual products to display your custom field. This is ideal for:

  • Product-specific customization options

  • Fields that only make sense for certain items

  • Special instructions for particular products

To select specific products:

  1. Choose "Specific Products" in the targeting settings

  2. Click "Select Products"

  3. Use the product picker to search and select products

  4. Save your selection

Specific Collections

Target entire collections of products to display your custom field. This works well for:

  • Category-specific information

  • Fields that apply to a group of related products

  • Collection-specific options or add-ons

To select specific collections:

  1. Choose "Specific Collections" in the targeting settings

  2. Click "Select Collections"

  3. Use the collection picker to search and select collections

  4. Save your selection

Geographic Targeting

Control which countries or regions can see your custom fields:

All Countries

When selected, your custom field will be visible to customers from any country.

Specific Countries

Target customers from specific countries to display your custom field. This is useful for:

  • Country-specific shipping information

  • Legal requirements that vary by country

  • Services or options only available in certain regions

To select specific countries:

  1. Enable "Geographic Targeting" in the targeting settings

  2. Choose "Specific Countries"

  3. Select countries from the dropdown list

  4. Save your selection

Customer Segment Targeting

Target specific customer segments to display your custom fields (requires Shopify Plus):

All Customers

When selected, your custom field will be visible to all customers regardless of segment.

Specific Customer Segments

Target specific customer segments to display your custom field. This is ideal for:

  • VIP customer options

  • Wholesale customer fields

  • Segment-specific promotions or services

To select specific customer segments:

  1. Enable "Customer Segment Targeting" in the targeting settings

  2. Choose "Specific Customer Segments"

  3. Select segments from the dropdown list

  4. Save your selection

Combining Targeting Options

You can combine multiple targeting options to create highly specific conditions for when your custom fields appear. For example:

  • Show a field only for products in the "Jewelry" collection AND only to customers in the United States

  • Display a field for specific products AND only to wholesale customers

  • Show a field for all products BUT only to customers in certain countries

Targeting Limitations

  • Variant-Level Targeting: Currently, targeting is at the product level, not the variant level.

  • Time-Based Targeting: Scheduling fields to appear during specific time periods is planned for a future release.

  • Cart-Level Fields: Fields that appear in the cart rather than on product pages require different implementation.
